Since 1991, the CVBT has been using, researching, developing and promoting small-scale building material manufacturing technologies as a means to create new employment for villagers. Interlocking Compressed Earth Blocks Ornamental Paving Slabs Roofing Tiles Rice Husk Ash Cement Research and Development The CVBT designs tools, technologies and products for small-scale production and testing of building materials. The CVBT has developed several appropriate technologies to help villagers easily make quality products. A very simple one is the plastic measuring bucket. Fabricated from PVC pipe it has a relatively small mouth compared to its tall height. This makes for small error in measuring raw materials (sand, stone, and soil) for making products. The CVBT is world famous for its “winged ridge” system for concrete roof tiles. It makes an eye-pleasing finish to a roof. The CVBT maintains a small workshop and has computer and manual design facilities. | Interns |
|
We like interns to gain some good work-life experience, build some confidence in applying their education, gain some appreciation for village life and a different culture and accomplish something useful for villagers and the CVBT. We want their time at the CVBT to be positive and pleasant for them and the villagers they work and live with.

Upcoming Courses Below is our program of seminars for this year. Send an email to cvbt@cvbt-web.org if you wish to apply to attend a seminar. ORNAMENTAL PAVING SLAB PRODUCTION SEMINAR9-20 January 2012 ACTS – APPROPRIATE CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES SEMINAR24-28 September 2012 INTERLOCKING COMPRESSED EARTH BLOCK CONSTRUCTION SEMINAR16 - 20 July 2012 ORNAMENTAL PAVING SLAB ENTERPRISE FEASIBILITY STUDY SEMINAR4 - 5 December 2012 RAIN WATER HARVESTING SEMINAR (CURVED INTERLOCKING CONCRETE BLOCK PRODUCTION AND SELF-FLUSHING DOWNSPOUT USE).6-7 December The CVBT offers training in appropriate building material production. Small scale production can help to create new jobs locally: that is the main mission of the CVBT. Course Content All production courses cover raw material selection and preparation, mix design and mixing, forming, curing, quality control, and equipment maintenance. We believe in learning by doing. Courses are hand-on with some analysis and book work. Students can expect to be dirty and tired at the end of a day's training. Quality control is a part of all training. Simple methods (many developed at the CVBT) are used to assure an accurate mix and an accurately formed product. A gender awareness module is part of every training. Standard Courses These standard courses are offered on demand at the CVBT. Most courses need a minimum of three students. Students are recommended to have a high school education. |
